How Much Does Upholstery Cost in North Carolina? A 2026 Pricing Guide
Upholstery can modernize any space.
If you're considering reupholstering a piece of furniture or updating your boat seating, one of the first questions you probably have is, "How much does upholstery cost?"
At Inlow Upholstery, we understand that every project is an investment. While every piece is unique, we've put together this guide to give you a better understanding of how upholstery pricing works and what factors affect the total cost.
Understanding Upholstery Pricing
Unlike purchasing new furniture, upholstery is a custom service. Every project is carefully disassembled, inspected, prepared, sewn, and reassembled by hand. No two pieces are exactly alike, which is why pricing can vary from one project to the next.
Our published prices are starting labor prices only.
Please keep in mind:
Fabric is an additional cost.
Foam replacement is available for an additional charge if needed.
Repairs to frames, springs, webbing, or other structural components may increase the final price.
Decorative details such as Channel Back, Kidney or curved pieces, Waterfall skirt, Button Tufting, and arm covers and other custom features will increase the final price.
We'll discuss any additional costs with you before work begins, so you'll know what to expect.
Starting Upholstery Labor Prices
Below are general starting labor prices for some of our most requested services.

This price does not include fabric or foam replacement.

-
Most sofa upholstery projects begin around $1,100 (labor only). Final pricing depends on the size, style, cushion design, and any repairs or foam replacement that may be needed.
Marine upholstery prices vary based on style, design preferences, and water damage to the seating structure. Many marine projects require an in person evaluation to ensure an accurate pricing estimate.
Marine Upholstery Pricing
Boat upholstery projects vary significantly because every boat is different.
Pricing depends on factors such as:
Number of seats or cushions
Foam condition
Marine vinyl selection
Decorative stitching or patterns
Repairs to seat bases or backing boards
Overall project size
Whether you need one seat recovered or a complete interior restoration, we're happy to provide a custom estimate after reviewing photos of your boat.
RV & Camper Upholstery
Every RV and camper is different, so upholstery projects are quoted on an individual basis. Whether you need dinette cushions, bench seating , sofas, headboards, wall panels, or other interior upholstery, we’re happy to provide a custom estimate based on your specific project.
Why Reupholster Instead of Replace?
Many older pieces of furniture were built with solid hardwood frames and quality construction that simply isn't found in much of today's mass-produced furniture.
Reupholstery allows you to:
Keep furniture you already love.
Choose the exact fabric that matches your home.
Preserve family heirlooms or sentimental pieces.
Extend the life of well-built furniture.
Create a custom look that's uniquely yours.
In many cases, reupholstering a quality piece is a better long-term investment than replacing it with new furniture.
Choosing the Right Fabric
Fabric plays an important role in both the appearance and durability of your project.
We can help you select upholstery fabrics that fit your needs, whether you're looking for:
Durable everyday fabrics
Family-friendly performance fabrics
Pet-friendly options
Designer fabrics
Marine-grade vinyl for boats
Because every customer has different preferences and budgets, fabric is priced separately from labor. This allows you to choose the material that's right for your project.
How to Get an Upholstery Estimate
Getting an estimate is simple.
